Emilia Sanabria est une anthropologue des sciences et de la santé dont les travaux se situent à la croisée de l’anthropologie sociale et des Science and Technology Studies (STS). Titulaire d’un doctorat d’Anthropologie sociale de l’Université de Cambridge (réalisé sous la direction de Marilyn Strathern), d’un DEA en études environnementales (IRD & Université d’Orléans) et d’une Licence en Histoire et Philosophie des Sciences (University College London), elle a occupé de 2011 à 2018 un poste de Maîtresse de conférences à l’Ecole normale supérieure de Lyon, avant de rejoindre le CNRS en octobre 2018. 

Sa monographie, Plastic Bodies: Sex hormones and menstrual suppression in Brazil, est parue chez Duke University Press en 2016 et a reçu les prix Michelle Z. Rosaldo et Diana Forsythe de l’American Anthropological Association. 

Depuis 2017 Emilia est Principal Investigator (PI) du programme ERC « Healing Encounters: Reinventing an indigenous medicine in the clinic and beyond ». Le projet étudie les réinventions prolifiques de pratiques de guérison qui font usage d’un breuvage amazonien connu sous le nom d’ayahuasca. Emilia Sanabria est membre élue du Conseil de laboratoire du CERMES3, membre nommée du comité d’éthique opérationnel du CNRS Sciences humaines et sociales (anciennement INSHS) et co-responsable de l’Axe 3 du CERMES3 « La santé à l’âge de la crise environnementale globale ».
